Clicker Trained Wheelchair Tasks for Assistance Dogs Part 2

Added on Sep 8, 2009 From Donna Hill

See how to use clicker to train several tasks used specifically with a wheelchair: retrieving the chair from storage, nudging fallen hand back onto chair, retrieving dropped objects to hand or lap, delivering objects to clerk at counter. This video shows step by step how to shape the behaviors using positive clicker training assuming your dog has some of the foundation behaviors of pull, push & retrieve .
(see previous videos). Thanks to Central Drugs, Nanaimo, BC for allowing us to film and lending the wheelchair.

Mar 12, 2017 - I like the way you train and show it, but I'm not able to read the texts as fast as they are presented.

Apr 3, 2011 - @tara6692 No, She has too many fear issues to be trusted in public. She is also our family member. However, she helps me learn how to train specific tasks as a demo dog so I can help others train their own service dogs.

Mar 23, 2011 - Would love to see more. I suffer from MS and have a 5 month old pit mix I'd love to train like Jessie. Wish me luck

Donna Hill Says:

Feb 2, 2010 - Thanks! Jessie was a 7 mos old city pound puppy (kept running away from her previous owner) and is now almost 3 yo.

Donna Hill Says:

Oct 13, 2009 - Jessie can be very cat-like at times! This is one reason we think she might be min pin or at least a small breed mix (my daxie was very cat-like too). When we first got her she ran all around the room on the top of the couch and didn't touch the floor!
