6 Must have items every dog owner needs,

1. A Crate

A crate is not a bad thing! It's not a place to put your dog when it's bad! Think of a crate as your dog's personal space or their bedroom. Your dog should have a place that they can be comfortable in and call their own. Purchasing a crate that your dog can sit in lay in and turn around in is perfect.

Don't try to get one that's too big, your dog wants a small space where they can feel protected. The other main purpose of a crate is to have a place to keep your dog when it is unsupervised.

2. A Collar with tags

Our dogs may get lost at some point in their life. It's important to have your dog's name with a phone number on it so if the dog does accidentally stray away from you, whoever finds your dog will know how to contact you. Don't allow for the collar to be too tight or too loose on your dog. You should be able to fit two fingers comfortably between the collar and your dog's neck.

Be sure to find a collar that best suits your dog. There are many to collars to choose from, different types of collars include:

A buckle collar is a regular collar without any type of release.

A martingale collar is typically made out of nylon tightens with even pressure around the entire neck when the leash is pulled.

Harnesses are great for smaller dogs whose necks can be easily damaged by pulling on neck collars. There are different types such as a chest and a body harnesses.

Gentle leaders are head harnesses. Horses use a similar device to be lead by their owner. It's great to have control on the head of the dog because that is what leads the dog! Having complete direction of the head will give you a lot more control too.

Consult a professional when using a prong or chain collars! Used incorrectly can be damaging to your dog's throat.

3. A Leash

Your dog needs to know how to walk on a leash for safety reasons and to expel pent up energy from hanging out in the house all day. Your leash is there to keep your dog attached to you and safe from dangers.

4. A Bed

Your dog needs a place that they can call their own to sleep on and relax! Ideally you should teach your dog to sleep in their bed instead of your's in order to build boundaries and keep your bed clean and hair free.

5. Toys/ Kongs /Puzzles

Your dog is a very intelligent creature! You should not expect that your dog will be okay if they have nothing to do! Your dog is prone to destructive behaviors if not given the correct toys. Things like Kongs and Dog Puzzles are available to give the dog brain games to work on to try and get yummy treats out of.

6. Chews

Our dogs instinctually want to chew on things. Instead of having your dog chew up your couch supply chews. Chews also help clean the teeth and remove tartar. If you prefer non rawhide options I suggest purchasing Merik Antler Bones and Himalayan Dog Chews.

Jun 20, 2017 - I'm gonna get a dog in about 1 or 2 months and we all agreed (me, my mom, my dad, my sister, and my cat brother) decided that instead of connecting the leash to the collar, we are getting her a harness :)

May 12, 2017 - Having the dog walk next to you or in front of you is nothing more than a personal preference. I prefer to have the option of sending my dogs ahead, or letting them sniff behind me while I keep walking (instead of having to wait for them, which would be the case with a shorter, non retractable leash). Keeping the dog in front of you (which does not have to equal pulling, though I do have a command to make mine pull) is also helpful in keeping track of what the dog is doing. It has actually been a literal life saver in the past:
I sent my small dog ahead of me while I was walking both my dogs and my cat. Then I heard frantic shouting from a dog owner who was not yet within sight, but whose loose and aggressive dog had spotted my small dog. That gave me time to call him to me and pick him and my cat up, and get my big dog in front of me to fend the other dog off until the owner arrived. If I hadn't sent my small dog ahead, I would not have been notified of the other dog in time, and it would probably have had my cat for lunch.

Apr 19, 2017 - My dog name is Bagel, She is 14 weeks old and loves chewing on anything. I bought her several puppy-chewable toys, but she used to lose interest for them very quickly. So I decided to try this squirrel toy which is a interactive toy that she can literally put her nose in it! It's impressive how much she likes playing with it from morning to night! Sometimes I insert small treats and mix them up with the squirrels, she gets soooo intoit ..To know more click here http://azon.ly/H86d
